How we rank colleges and calculate your chance

Your results are ordered by your chance of admission and the priorities you picked. Money never changes that order. This page explains the method, the data behind it and how we fix mistakes.

How we calculate Safe, Moderate and Reach

For each program we take the official closing ranks for your category, seat pool (gender-neutral or female-only) and quota (home state or other state) from the last three years of counselling, round by round. We compare your rank, or the rank estimated from your percentile, with those closing ranks.

  • Safe: your rank is comfortably inside the closing rank in recent years.
  • Moderate: your rank is within about 10% of the latest closing rank, so it depends on the round and on other students’ choices.
  • Reach: the program closed before your rank; you would need a later round, a spot round or a better rank.
  • Not enough data: fewer than two years of cutoffs exist for your category, or the college does not admit through counselling.

Every result card shows the closing rank, the year and round it comes from, and a link to the official document. A chance is an estimate from past rounds, not a promise of admission.

How results are sorted

“Best match” puts Safe and Moderate programs first and then weighs the priorities you chose in the college finder, such as placements, low fees or NIRF rank. You can also sort by safest first, lowest total cost, highest median salary or best return on cost.

Sponsored listings

Colleges can pay to appear in two fixed, clearly labelled slots in a results page: positions 4 and 12. A sponsored card says “Sponsored · not part of your ranking”, is not counted in your Safe, Moderate or Reach totals and never moves another result. How we make money has the details.

Where the data comes from

Cutoffs come from JoSAA, CSAB, MCC and state counselling result documents. Rankings come from NIRF. Institution details come from AISHE, AICTE and UGC. Fees and placements come from the college’s own published fee notices and placement reports. Each fact shows its source document and the date we last checked it against that document.

Corrections

If a number is wrong, report it. We check the report against the official source. When a value changes, the page shows the new value, its source and a new verified date, and the old value is kept in our corrections log.
